At the borders of the drawing area (Draft mode) grid bars are visible. The hierachical list at the left side controls layers, structure, ports, simulation setup, editor options and more. Toolbars at the top are partially fixed or context dependent.

Structure set up

Objects are entered in the Draft display mode in either top, front or right view. They are created and edited by using the Structure List or with the aid of action buttons and mouse input. Cursor snap properties can be adjusted in the Editor Options List.
Object’s co-ordinates as well as values of properties, e.g. permittivity, may be parametrically defined. After entering a parameter name, its range and value can be adjusted in the Parameters List.
After object definition, ports and excitations have to be entered. Many port types (Microstrip, Coaxial, lumped ports,…) are predefined and can be selected from a Ports List. Plane wave excitation and hollow waveguide ports can be defined using boxes and advanced properties. If near field plots (E, H, S, P, SAR, ACD) or radiation patterns need to be generated, associated layers for field recordings should be defined.

In the Draft mode the structure is displayed by a wire frame model. On the right and on the bottom the current FDTD grid is depicted by small lines where the outermost lines define the simulation domain. Depending on the boundary conditions the borders of the simulation domain are marked by green (magnetic wall), red (electric wall) or dotted lines (open wall). On the left there are lists for the creation and control of layers, objects, simulation parameters and more. On the top, icons are available for project actions and different views. Folders can be chosen below for different display modes. Context dependent buttons for editor operations appear in the next row when a certain action may be performed.
